Afrobeats singer MohBad dies aged 27: Artist’s death confirmed in a statement stating he is ‘finally at peace’
Afrobeats singer Mohbad has died aged 27.
In a statement shared on the singer’s Instagram page, it was confirmed that Mohbad – real name Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba – died on Tuesday 12 September.
The message noted that the artist was ‘finally at peace’, with the family asking for privacy during this difficult time.
The statement read: ‘It is with great sadness that we confirm the passing of Promise Oladimeji Aloba PK/A Mohbad (Imole) today, the 12th of September, 2023.
‘Mohbad was light until the very end, and as we mourn the loss of the brightness he carried, the family thanks you for your love and prayers, and asks that you continue to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Imole is finally at peace.’

The Nigerian star’s cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
Fans and pals of the rapper were quick to share their heartache and condolences in the comments.
One person wrote: ‘Good night king’, while another shared: ‘Rest on champ.’
A third shared some of the artist’s lyrics, writing: ‘You don’t have to hurt him before you win, You don’t have to kill somebody before you sin. This lyrics hit different now. Goodnight IMOLE.’
‘He wanted “peace” but now he’s resting in “peace” commented a fourth fan.
With another simply adding: ‘May ur soul find rest’.
MohBad’s promoter Ovie also went on to confirm the sad news in his own statement shared to Twitter (now known as X), writing: ‘Confirmed. Mohbad is dead. Sad, sad day. R.I.P.’
In an additional message, Ovie added: ‘It’s important to apply wisdom and caution when it comes to Mohbad’s demise. I’m already seeing some wild tweets. Do not make ridiculous insinuations. Be very careful.’

Meanwhile, Joey Akan, founder of Afrobeats Intelligence, shared his memories of MohBad on X, noting: ‘Last time I saw Mohbad, we were in an apartment, a recording camp working on song selection for his last EP.
‘Man gave me a weird sweet red wine, and we had a little good-natured argument over the final songs to make the project and the length of the EP. Rest in peace man.’
MohBad was known for his baritone and tracks including Ask About Me, Pariwo and Peace.
MohBad, born in June 1998, was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records until his departure from the label in 2022.
He is survived by his wife Wunmi, with whom he shares a son.
