You: Did you play any music before you got sober. In fact Ive always wondered about that too haha. Cooper: I mean I was raised a Jehovahs Witness and that all music is considered rebellious towards God, so I just never had it in me to listen to anything that wasnt Christian. I can totally understand your reasoning though. Cooper:, Sigh, The thing is I really didnt even want to be an actor, I just wanted to act. I mean in my head it felt like it was supposed to be me. You: How the hell did you get hooked. Cooper: Ive never said this to anyone before, but the first film I ever did was The Break Out. The director was John Waters and I got to act with him on his film. I just remember him being very protective of me. He always told me I could do anything I wanted. I dont know how much I took to that, but I did I guess, because I always followed his advice. Since Id already made it through those tough early years of my life with him, I had a great deal of confidence in Johns ability to take care of me. The only other thing that helped was the drugs I went to on the set. I would take those in an attempt to block out the world around me. You: How exactly did you get hooked on drugs. Cooper: I guess it was probably when I was in my early 20s. I was in a movie called The Nut Job and I think I was on stage with some other actress friends and my character died when the set collapsed on us. We were all supposed to get rescued, but a crane failed to come to the rescue. The thing that probably saved my life was, as they were putting me on a stretcher they called me over to the head of the stretcher and I remember looking at that woman sitting there saying, Thats my mother. I dont think I was even supposed to be in the movie anymore because I was just a glorified extra in this big Hollywood movie that had no real purpose and I was dead on set.
