Angela Rippon unlikely to make Strictly final despite impressing, claims ex pro
Eamonn Holmes talks about Angela Rippon’s impressive display on Strictly
Veteran TV star Angela Rippon’s chances of making the final of Strictly Come Dancing 2023 have been questioned by former series professional Brendan Cole.
She wowed the judges and viewers with her debut dance in the first of the live shows, scoring an impressive 29 points and putting her in joint second place on the leaderboard.
However, Brendan feels the punishing Strictly schedule will take its toll on the legendary newscaster.
“I don’t know if [Angela] will be a winner, but I do think she could get almost all the way through. I don’t think she’d make the final because I think there will come a point where people look like they are really on it,” he explained.
“They are flying around the floor, it’d be full on, high energy, and I don’t know if that will continue throughout the show for Angela and Kai [Widdrington],” he said before conceding: “I might be wrong.”

Angela has addressed the hectic Strictly schedule herself saying the training sessions so far have been “intense and up to six hours at a stretch”, adding: “I ache everywhere. Have bruises in impossible places. Sweat buckets.
“Nothing quite prepares you for what being ‘Strictly-fied’ means until you are up to your neck in sequins, tanning, the frocks and sheer physical, emotional and mental demands of being a ‘celebrity’ competitor in the BBC’s most popular prime-time show,” she confessed
Angela admitted part of her wished she had been asked to do it 10 years ago when she was “younger and fitter” and said she has been using ice baths to help ease any pain.
Despite his prediction, Brendan did admit in a chat with Sky Bingo to enjoying the 78-year-old star’s performance.
“She was very impressive, though, and I loved watching her and I’d love to see her be there right into the end, that would be a brilliant thing for her,” he stated.

“She’s delightful. She’s got a great partner in Kai, so there’s no reason why she shouldn’t be there at the end, but it only takes one or two bad weeks, where things don’t quite gel.
“People are very fickle. They soon forget how good you were, so I’m not sure that every single style will suit her,” the 47-year-old dad of two opined.
“They say she’s doing an Argentine Tango, maybe that won’t suit because it’s quite full on with the intricacy of it – and a lot of people struggle with it. I’m not saying she will, but she might,” he speculated.
Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.20pm on BBC One.
