Christophr Plummer has died.
The prolific actor passed away at the age of 91 at his home peacefully in Connecticut with his wife and best friend of 53 years by his side, his family confirmed to Deadline on Friday (February 5).
Lou Pitt, his longtime friend and manager of 46 years, issued a statement upon his passing.
“Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a National Treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.”
He first made his Broadway debut in the 1950s, later starring in classics like The Sound of Music. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the age of 82 for Beginners, and received a nomination at 88 for All the Money in the World, making him the oldest person to be nominated in an acting category at the time.
He also won Emmys, Tonys, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award, making him one of the few stars to receive the Triple Crown of Acting (the E-O-T in EGOT).
Our thoughts are with Christopher Plummer‘s loved ones at this difficult time.
All of these stars have sadly died in 2021.
