Dan Walker, 44, and his pro partner Nadiya Bychkova, were the 11th couple to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday night, after being inundated with abuse for their progress in the BBC competition. With claims floating around that the results are “fixed”, Dan spoke out about how the “right four people” made it through to the semi-finals this Saturday.

The BBC Breakfast star was sad to leave, but credited the remaining celebrities for their hard work.

Taking to Twitter, he penned: “I’m sad it’s over but I’m so thankful it happened.

“We had an amazing run & the right 4 people are in the SF – Rose, John AJ & Rhys are all brilliant.”

Dan added of his partner: “I’m so glad everyone has seen the real @NadiyaBychkova this series.

“She taught me how to dance… I taught her cricket,” he chuckled.

Fans rushed to the comments section to praise the presenter for his courage to keep going despite the nasty messages he had been receiving.

The host was told by online trolls that they wished “he’d break his leg” and “go bald”, while another told him “I f*****g hate you,” and a third said they’d sue him and his “s**t dancing.”

Dan addressed the “uncomfortable” situation on-air his elimination, explaining to viewers: “The last 11 weeks have been amazing, I genuinely have loved every second of it.

“If I go back to the first day when we were asked to dance in front of some glitterballs, at that point, if there would’ve been a fire exit, I felt that uncomfortable, I’d have just walked away.

“But this amazing woman sort of grabbed me by the hands and brought me out onto this dance floor.”

He added: “I’m not a dancer, but she showed me that I can dance and that for me has been an absolutely incredible experience.”

The pair narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals after the dance-off against AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington.

Following the results, Dan shared a touching message, thanking viewers fr all their support.

“Well… what a ride!” he exclaimed.

“#Strictly has been a truly wonderful experience for me. I enjoyed every second. @NadiyaBychkova is a superstar: kind, encouraging, funny, clever, the best teacher I could ever have hoped for & a great friend.

“Thanks for the support & thanks for having us.”

The remaining couples through to next week’s semi-final are; AJ and Kai, Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu, Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice, John Whaite and Johannes Radebe.

Strictly continues Saturday on BBC One.
