Eurocentric beauty standards

Im not a person who can even think about the idea that I might not be attractive enough to be successful in a certain field. Like, Im already not sure what field Ill be in when I grow up, so to think that one day I might be unable to succeed there because of my gender is just too much for me. Now I could just be overly sensitive about my appearance, and just try to be a positive person who gets along with everyone, but I dont think thats the right way to go about it. Even when I was a child, I was a bit self-conscious about a few things, like my hair. In fact, my hair started to become a cause for major embarrassment when I was a junior in high school. Its because of my hair that I have to constantly deal with comments about my nails. I didnt want to deal with them at the time, and so I got a haircut during my freshman year of college. I just didnt see the point in dealing with the added stress that came with dealing with other peoples insecurities about my appearance. I mean, I could deal with it every time, but at what point was my appearance the main thing that was bothering me. I know it was at least a small distraction for some people, yet I was still dealing with other problems. The same thing is even more true with my physical appearance. I think that its just my natural charm that has gotten me the attention of quite a few guys and girls. As I said, I have a good chance at success in a field like this, so I think it would just be best if I just kept my head down and tried to do well in a field where I wasnt necessarily going to deal with peoples insecurities about my appearance. Im sorry, but I just dont think this way. I know Im not very popular and I probably wont have a lot of friends. I dont think Im pretty or anything and I dont think most people find me attractive, but I can smile and talk to people to make them happy, so why cant I just deal with people being awkward about their natural attraction to me. I feel like I just said something thats going to make me even less popular and less popular even more. How do you feel about the topic of your beauty. Are you okay with its inherent sexism within the eyes of society. If youre truly okay with your beauty, youve got a long, long way to go. Your answer will not be the one that makes you more popular. Your answer will not be the one that makes you happier. Your answer will not even make you happier than most people.
