Legendary singer Britney Spears had only just freed herself from the clutches of a 13-year conservatorship when she started to pose nude for Instagram, before taking aim at her sister’s incendiary claims she’d previously locked the pair of them in a room with a knife. However, as the bad blood between the sisters continues, Britney has now revealed a brand new hairdo – and it’s a shocking shade of purple.
Very bored so my nail girl said do it!
Posting an Instagram clip of her hair whipped up into a high ponytail, Britney sashayed back and forth for a selfie video in the mirror to display her new style.
“Here’s me with purple hair,” she announced.
“I’m bored, ok ??? Very bored so my nail girl said do it !!!!
“Girl .. I did it but not sure I like it but hey … Here’s me in a 100 dollar mini dress with my boots.”
The decision to change her hairdo follows Britney’s public claim her sister and friends shunned her when she returned to the family home after a break-up after Justin Timberlake, instead dying their hair like her arch competitor Christina Aguilera.
“You felt bad for me in the breakup, HELL NO you didn’t!” she had raged on Twitter of Jamie Lynn, ten years her junior.
“You and your friends all dyed your hair like Christina Aguilera and you no longer would play with me.”
Christina and Britney have known each other since they rose to fame as child stars on the Disney show The Mickey Mouse Club – but their relationship has not always been plain sailing.
Since the early 2000s, the media reported a feud between the pair, often citing a public comment of Christina’s in Blender magazine stating: [Britney] seems to me like a lost little girl, someone who desperately needs guidance.”
Britney fiercely denied the suggestion, claiming it was “the other way round” and added: “When someone has been rude to you so many times, it’s like, ‘You know what, Christina, I’m really not about the fake anymore.'”
Christina then later described Britney as “trailer trash” after she proposed to her former boyfriend Kevin Federline, though she has since supported her in her bid to leave the conservatorship.
Britney is now standing out as different by tinting her blonde locks with purple dye.
Meanwhile, more than 455,000 fans liked her video clip trialling the new style.
“QUEEN OF PURPLE,” @loveneyspears exclaimed, adding a string of love heart emojis in the same colour to punctuate her post.
@agustina_montero celebrated the new-found freedom she had, praising: “I love the fact that she have [sic] a phone in her hands after 13 years of being in a nightmare.”
@fuggin_namaste wrote: “Nothing says freedom and self love like changing it up!”
@jezabelromo encouraged: “Do YOU chica, its been so long since you could! You look hot, you are comfortable in what you wear, so f*** them! Its your money, social media page and your camera……Keep rockin happiness chica, it looks damn good on you!”
Other fans begged her to tag the designer of the red knee high boots she was wearing in the clip, explaining they were in need of “inspiration”.
Behind the frivolous social media posts, Britney and Jamie Lynn’s relationship still seems to hang in the balance.
Lawyers have recently issued a cease and desist notice on Jamie Lynn, claiming her sister has taken her at her word that the book, Things I Should Have Said, is not about her, and therefore expects her to stop using “derogatory” comments about Britney during the promotion of it.
The icy atmosphere between them continues while Britney carves out her path after finding freedom.
