Joe Swash talks getting dirty looks’ in ‘stressful’ airport travel admission

Joe Swash, who recently travelled down to Kent with his family for a staycation at Haven’s new flagship park on the coast, has explained why he finds foreign holidays so “stressful” in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk.
The former EastEnders actor, who is married to fellow I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner Stacey Solomon, opened up about what it’s like to travel by plane with so many children.
Between them, Joe and Stacey share three children: four-year-old Rex, two-year-old Rose and newborn Belle.
In addition, Joe has a son named Harry, 16, from a previous relationship, while Stacey also has two sons from previous relationships: Zachary, 15, and Leighton, 11.
This means the couple share six children between them in total, which would understandably make airport travel quite difficult.

Asked about the biggest challenges of travelling with so many young kids, Joe said: “When it comes to travelling, you need to just bite the bullet. There’s no way around it. You’ve just got to do it.
“I’ve sort of trained myself to ignore other people,” Joe admitted. “So when the kids are crying, it’d be the other people that would stress me out and be giving me dirty looks.
“So I just sort of put myself in a little bubble and look after the kids,” he continued. “You’ve just got to do it.”
Joe then suggested an alternative to foreign holidays that he and Stacey will often opt for to save them all the hassle.

“You know, we love to have staycations and caravan parks,” he revealed. “They’re a big part of my childhood and Stacey’s childhood.
“We used to go all the time when we were kids. Great memories. So we try and do a few staycations a year for the kids. They love them.
“For me, they’re amazing because as soon as I hear that we’ve got to go to an airport, it brings back flashbacks of Home Alone when they’re running through the airport and they’ve lost a kid and there’s hundreds of them running through.
“That’s like us when we go on holiday,” he admitted. “I do get stressed out on the travelling side of things. So having [holidays] on our doorstep is a blessing in disguise.”
Joe then went on to praise the newly revamped Haven Kent Coast holiday park, which has recently undergone an £18 million transformation to include lots of exciting activities for kids, including a 6m jump, segways and trampolines.
“I think it’s really important to go somewhere where it caters for the kids – where they’ve got enough entertainment and enough things to do,” he said.
“As long as they’re entertained, then holidays are a lot easier. That’s why I thought Haven Holiday Park was so amazing. There’s so much! I was honestly knocked sideways by how much they’ve got for the kids there.”
