Ken Bruce could barely speak between songs after second divorce struggle
Ken Bruce has admitted he “struggled” behind-the-scenes at BBC Radio 2 after his divorce from his second wife Anne Gilchrist.
The dad-of-six, who has since moved on to Greatest Hits radio, had already suffered from the “massive low” of his first split from ex-wife Fiona Fraser.
He recalled: “That was a massive low for me.
“It doesn’t come out in work. I actually find work therapeutic. Being on the radio is really helpful.”
Two years after his devastating divorce from Fiona, Ken married Anne, however, this too was to end in heartbreak for the radio star, as they went on to separate five years later.

Despite still finding work a distraction, Ken found that after his second divorce, playing sad songs on-air had started to render him speechless.
In an interview for Gyles Brandreth’s Rosebud podcast, set to be released on September 15, Ken admitted in quotes obtained by MailOnline: “After my second divorce, I found that I was playing records, you know sad records, like Roy Orbison’s Crying or something like that, (and it) would really bring me down.
“It would be a struggle to do the next link. But that was temporary.
“Mostly work has been huge therapy for me and got me through an awful lot.”

Ken also shared he feels “guilt” over his first marriage, after becoming “too absorbed in my work”.
The presenter explained: “To begin with I was a very good husband, but I think I became not a terrific husband to be honest.
“I got into broadcasting. I think I was too concerned with what I was doing.”
Ken went on to marry for a third time to Kerith Coldham in 2000, with whom he shares three of his children; sons Murray, 21, and Charlie, 15, and a daughter Verity, 18.
The radio personality’s other three children are Campbell, Douglas, and Kate, with the eldest being 42.
The DJ recently underwent a huge change in his professional life, as he left BBC Radio 2 after hosting the broadcaster’s mid-morning show from 1986.
