Love Island fans have been left divided over if Laura Whitmore should return as the show's host.

Laura, 36, received mixed reviews on social media after she fronted the live reunion show on Sunday 5 September, which wrapped up a whirlwind series.

The TV presenter, who is married to the show's voice over star Iain Stirling, took over from Caroline Flack after she temporarily stepped down. Then, following Caroline's tragic death at the age of 40, Laura became the show's permanent host.

After the live reunion show aired, fans took to Twitter to share their views on Laura fronting the series.

Some were critical of Laura presenting the show after she quizzed Lillie Haynes on Jack Grealish rumours.

One said: "Love Island : Get Rid of Laura Whitmore, give us a new host."

A second added of the reunion: "Laura and Ian are making me cringe ! Their jokes are so dead. No one is laughing are u not embarrassed #LoveIsland".

As a third said: "Im going to need Laura whitmore to remove presenter from her job title because this aint it #LoveIsland".

One fan pointed out: "laura keeps saying like 'ooo this is so awkward haha' LIKE PLS U ARE THE ONE MAKING IT AWKWARD".

Meanwhile, others defended the star as one said: "Not her biggest fan but feel for Laura here. Contestants were DRY and production was shocking! Not fair to lay blame for how c**p this show is on her. #LoveIsland #loveislandthereunion".

Another added: "do people on here not realise how television works? so much hate directed towards laura over the questions, moving on too quickly and who is placed on the couch.. all things which are completely out of her control as a presenter? all the hate is so unfair #LoveIsland".

While a third insisted: "I love Laura Whitmore's jokes. She's hilarious. An amazing TV presenter, too. She knows how to keep a show together. Big fan. #LoveIsland #LoveIslandAftersun #LoveIslandReunion".

And a fourth said: "the laura hate is unnecessary #LoveIsland".

Others also quizzed Laura on why Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank were not invited up to the sofa to speak like the rest of the finalists.

One said: "Nah I’m still not over Laura asking Kaz and Tyler what’s the next step when they JUST became boyfriend and girlfriend WHY WOULD YOU ASK THEM THAT??? #LoveIsland".

Another highlighted: "So they gave these non finalists a seat on the couch and had Laura shouting at Kaz and Tyler #LoveIsland".

And a third said: "Why is Laura talking to Kaz and Tyler from there??? Everyone else got to sit on the sofa. #LoveIsland".

Following the backlash, Laura took to her Instagram page to hit back at a number of criticisms from the live reunion show.

In a string of Instagram story posts, Laura wrote: "Shall I clarify a few other things?"

Laura added: "Hundreds of people work on Love Island, my job is not to organise seating arrangements. I barely know what seat I'm sitting in before the show as set changes so much" followed by an eye roll emoji.

She went on: "We invited Kaz to sit with Toby for his exes segment but she didn't want to and it's her choice to make. Everything is run through with the Islanders before hand. It's all about choice!"

"I only ask questions that are pre-approved by the compliance division. A lot of meetings happen before I see the script and then I can add my voice."
