Owner of Mere restaurant, Monica Galetti, 45, has recalled that during a recent once in a lifetime trip to a giraffe hotel in Africa, she told her co-presenter Giles Coren, “You’re not who I want to be here with”. The restaurant critic and former senior sous-chef at Le Gavroche are currently presenting Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby series four together on BBC Two.

Jokingly revealing that she loves any pool she can “push Giles into”, Monica went on to admit a visit to an extraordinary hotel left her wishing by her side.
Speaking about her once in a lifetime visit to Giraffe Manor, a hotel in Kenya where giraffes interact with guests, the Michelin-starred chef made a surprise revelation.
Speaking to the Radio Times about her experience, she said: “The place I most missed my husband and family was when I stayed at Giraffe Manor, which is a crazy hotel in Kenya where giraffes wander around sticking their necks in through the top-floor windows for snacks”.
She continued: “I was like, ‘I love you to pieces, Giles, but you’re not who I want to be here w
Monica revealed the trip left her missing chef husband David Galetti, 43, and daughter Anais, 14.
The restaurateur met her now spouse after he moved to London in 2001, after finishing his National Service in France.
At the time he was working as a sommelier in La Gavroche alongside Monica.
Three years later the couple married and in 2007 they had their first child.
The restaurateur went on to speak about her favourite stays, recalling that the best meal she had eaten while filming was in Morocco and admitted that she “coped” with eating guinea pig in Ecuador.
“I coped OK with eating guinea pig, while staying at the stunning Mashpi Lodge, up in the cloud forest of Ecuador – but that’s because mine was all cut up and served nicely.”
However, Monica admitted that her co-presenter didn’t have the same experience.
“Giles got his presented whole, and it looked like a rat frozen in the act of being about to bite you. I wasn’t quite so keen on that.”

Speaking to The Independent newspaper, Monica says about her marriage: “The most precious item I have is my wedding dress.”
Together the couple run Mere Restaurant in Fitzrovia, which they opened in March 2017.
Even though the power couple used to live around the corner from their restaurant, when Anais was nine months old they made the decision to move to the country.
Speaking to Time & Leisure, Monica said: “We used to live really central, just round the corner from where Mere is – actually in Fitzrovia – and we loved it but thought it was important to get out of the city when Anais was born so she could enjoy having a big garden to play in.”

She continued: “Now that the restaurant is running smoothly and our team has really settled in we are able to take the odd evening or morning off to spend with Anais and the dogs, which is a real luxury.”
The MasterChef star also revealed that her daughter was quick to “pull her up” if either her or David started working on Sundays, which they have coined “family day”.
According to the Wealthy Genius website, her net worth is around £3 million.
