Patrick Mahomes Discusses Chasing Tom Brady and How He Celebrated His Most Recent Big Win

Last year was a very good year for Patrick Mahomes. In 2020 the Kansas City Chiefs signal caller won a Super Bowl title, a Super Bowl MVP award, signed a contract extension worth more than $500 million, and got engaged to his longtime girlfriend who he is expecting his first child with.

But 2021 might actually be an even better for the NFL superstar since he’ll be walking down the aisle and welcoming a baby girl. He also could win another Super Bowl; that is if he can lead his team to a victory against the greatest of all time Tom Brady.

How Patrick Mahomes celebrated second AFC Championship win

On Jan. 24, the Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship game and secured a trip to the Super Bowl for the second year in a row.

During his weekly guest spot on KCSP 610 Sports Radio‘s The Drive, Mahomes was asked how he celebrated after the game. He admitted there weren’t any huge celebrations because of the COVID protocol.

“I just went home and made dinner with Brittany and got a good night’s rest,” he told the show hosts.

Mahomes also reflected on just how different the season has been due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“It’s draining every single day,” he stated. “To not able to go out to dinner. To not be able to do… I haven’t been able to go to the barbershop in like a month. It’s just stuff like that. You can’t do your normal thing. You can’t even hang out with your [teammates] outside the facility. It’s definitely different. You just keep your mindset. Keep a positive attitude.

Is Mahomes chasing Tom Brady?

Mahomes and company will be taking on Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the second time this season. The two teams played one another on Nov. 29. The Chiefs won that contest 27-24. Mahomes spoke about playing Brady this time in the league’s biggest game.

“To go up against Tom, all the success he’s had, it’s going to be a special moment,” Mahomes said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to go up against the GOAT.”

The Chiefs star has mentioned in the past that he would love to achieve the same success Brady has had in his career.

“Anything you do you want to go in and be the most successful,” he explained. “It’s going to be hard to do… to go to 10 Super Bowls and you got six rings and all that different type of stuff. You have to understand you have to go about doing whatever you can to be that type of person and the best player that you can be.

“For me, I understand the team I have around me and the opportunity we have going into this game and we have to try and maximize it as best we possibly can.”

The quarterbacks will face off in Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium, which is the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
