Strong bond thats taken Alessia Russo and Ella Toone from childhood friends to World Cup

Two Lionesses have proved that friendship can go a long way, as their partnership brought them to the FIFA World Cup final.

Alessia Russo and Ella Toone have shot to fame and their friendship has been put in the limelight, as the talented pair make history playing in England's first-ever Women's World Cup final.

The best friends have known each other since they were 12 and have been helping one another score goals ever since.

Alessia and Ella have spent much of their lives together, even living together whilst they both played at Manchester United.

They have a fantastic partnership on the pitch, which is clear for everyone to see, but also enjoy spending their spare time in each others company.

Their bond has even inspired fans to start a new chant that goes "Tooney and Lessi Russo" to the tune of Rockin' All Over the World by Status Quo.

The two regularly speak about the friendship they share with their fellow players, including Georgia Stanway, who competed in the quarter finals of the U17s World Cup with Alessi and Elle.

However Ella revealed Alessia was her "best friend" in an emotional farewell dedicated to her departure from Manchester United.

She told her TikTok followers: "Away from football, I just wanted to say best of luck to my best friend Alessia, moving clubs.

"I'm really proud of you and hope you smash it, I'm definitely going to miss you and spending time with you every single day.

"But I know you'll be great and I know we'll be friends forever. Love ya, miss ya and enjoy it."

It's clear Alessi feels the same way about Ella, speaking to GQ about their friendship just before her move, Russo said: "There are so many highs and lows in football and to have a constant in your best friend throughout that is really nice.

"We've seen each other at our best and worst. Weโ€™ve had the highest of highs last summer winning the Euros together, and had some tough points too, but that just makes the friendship stronger. We've been friends since we were 12 or 13, and we'll be friends forever."

The midfielder added: "Like Less said, it's nice to have someone there who's been through it all and understands it. Not many best friends can say that theyโ€™ve won the Euros together.

"In football, people move on, but you have friends in football that you have for life. They're very special because they understand the journey and they know what it takes to get to the top.

"To have Less by my side since we were young girls has been really nice and hopefully we can keep making lots more memories โ€“ and keep winning trophies."

Alessia and Ella even took part in a fashion shoot for Elle magazine together.

Ella said: ""[We] both had the dream of one day playing for England. So then to do it and [win], it was special. I don't think many best friends can say that they've done that."

The pair are hoping to add World Cup win to their already impressive list of accolades.

They have both already won the UEFA Cup of Champions and the Arnold Clark Cup twice.
