Ashley James has opened up about witnessing a stranger sadly die while on holiday.

The former Made in Chelsea star, 36, recently enjoyed a family holiday to Belgium with her partner Tommy Andrews and children Alfie, two and Ada, five months, and it was here that she experienced this horrific ordeal.

Sharing some photos of her holiday, Ashley opened up about the terrifying moment she saw someone die in the hotel she was staying in – sharing her devastation at what happened.

She started by writing that the family-of-four had taken their dream European road trip, which has been somewhat stressful with two young children, although she had that she's "so happy" to be on the trip and creating memories.

However, Ashley then sadly recalled how a fellow holidaymaker in their hotel had sadly died as she wrote: "We had an awful experience though.

"I can't stop thinking about it, and I've not really known whether to share it or not. I still don't know. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I still don't know."

Putting a trigger warning for death, the mum-of-two continued: "A man died in our hotel. Tommy and Alf went out in the morning and left Ada and I in our room. Our room was about 10 steps up some stairs and at the bottom of the stairs was another room.

"I went downstairs and there was a man getting CPR at the bottom. I ran back up but I heard everything. I won't go into details, but I'm sure you can imagine it wasn't a nice thing to hear and witness. I feel so sorry for all his loved ones."

Ashley continued: "Tommy couldn't get into the hotel and I couldn't get out of the room, and for a split second Tommy thought it could have been Ada or I as I'd misplaced my phone.

"Anyway, it is Definitely a reminder of how precious life is. How we shouldn't go to bed angry with people we love. Of how short life can be. It keeps replaying in my mind. And also, wow, paramedics are just heroes aren't they. [heart emoji]"

"For now I guess I just want to say, life is too short to not be doing that thing you want to do… hug your loved ones. And try not to go to bed upset with anyone."

Fans were quick to share messages of support, with one writing: "The most horrific experience, I empathise. Look after yourself and make sure you follow up with support if you think it is affecting you x."

"How awful! I witnessed a man getting CPR on my way to work one day, it really shook me up for a little while. It’s okay to feel all the feelings" added another.

While a third wrote: "We got married in Bruges, my favourite place ever! I’m so sorry your experience was tainted with such tragedy! Hopefully the rest of your trip is better!"
