Comedian Chris Rock and DJ Diplo have been among those fleeing from this year's Burning Man festival, as the Nevada desert is hit by torrential rain and flooding, with one revelled reported dead.

The celeb pals left the festival, despite calls for festival-goers to shelter in place, and were able to hitch a ride after a fan offered them space on their pick-up truck.

Posting to social media, Diplo, 44, shared that he and Chris, 58, had made it out of the festival as he posted a video of the pair on the back of the truck.

On Twitter, now known as X, he wrote: "just walked 5 miles in the mud out of burning man with chris rock and a fan picked us up."

And on Instagram he penned: "I legit walked the side of the road for hours with my thumb out cuz i have a show in dc tonight and didnt want to let yall down.

"Also shoutout to this guy for making the smart purchase of a truck not knowing it was for this exact moment [heart emoji]"

In the comments another festival-goer shared their experience of fleeing the festival, after their bus was unable to leave and they were stuck for a number of hours.

They wrote: "Walked 3 miles to get out to the main road with my luggage after being stuck 17h in the fucking burner express, wasn’t easy but I made it"

Diplo and Chris's escape seemed to divide social media users, with one writing: "Whoever rescued Chris Rock, thank you!!! He’s a national treasure."

However, another argued: "The elites getting extracted before it becomes the world's largest post-apocalyptic mud bog festival is peak liberal hypocrisy."

While a thrid simply added: "Glad your all safe and keeping the humor [laughing emoji]"

Heavy rain in the area has made it difficult for festivalgoers to leave the area, and with more rain expected those stuck in the desert have been advised to conserve food and water.

Those still stuck at the festival have also reported that the toilets are out of use as service vehicles are unable to drive on the mud to empty them.

It has since been reported that one person has been reported dead following flooding in the Black Rock Desert, where the festival has been held since 1990.

Pershing County Sheriff's Office told the BBC: "The Pershing County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating a death which occurred during this rain event."
