Fiona Phillips opens up about her Alzheimer’s diagnosis<\/h3>\n

Fiona Phillips admitted she feels guilty for putting pressure on her husband.<\/p>\n

The 62-year-old praised her spouse Martin Frizell, 64, who is also the editor of ITV’s This Morning saying he has stepped up since she received her diagnosis.<\/p>\n

“He\u2019s been amazing”, she told The Mirror. “One of the things that has happened to me is that I\u2019ve lost all interest in cooking and food.”<\/p>\n

She continued: “I used to like that but now when Martin gets home from work he\u2019ll cook. I do feel a bit guilty because it\u2019s another pressure on him but I just can\u2019t be bothered.<\/p>\n

“There are some days I can\u2019t be bothered to do anything. It\u2019s partly this malaise that I\u2019m in I suppose.”<\/p>\n

The former broadcaster went on to share that her husband “stabbing me three times a day with needles” as he assists in giving Fiona her daily medication.<\/p>\n

Two months after revealing her condition, the former ITV Breakfast host wants to continue to raise awareness.<\/p>\n

She opened up about her “awful” brain fog and being a part of cognitive tests to see if trial drugs could stabilise or even reverse the symptoms of Alzheimer’s.<\/p>\n

Fiona is being regularly monitored by doctors at University College Hospital in London, but neither of them knows if she is on an actual trial drug or a placebo, which according to The Mirror, “is necessary for a wide-scale experiment”.<\/p>\n

The presenter married Martin in 1997 after the pair had been colleagues at GMTV.<\/p>\n

The couple share two sons – Nathaniel, born in 1998, and Mackenzie, born in 2002.<\/p>\n

Fiona has had a range of presenting roles with ITV from 1993 to 2008 and has also filled in for Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled programme in the years since ITV took it over.<\/p>\n

Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease that causes mild memory loss in its early stages.<\/p>\n

In late-stage Alzheimer’s, individuals lose the ability to carry on a conversation and respond to their environment.<\/p>\n
