Unbelievably strange reason the King and other royals cant eat pointy food
You may expect the King to only have a taste for the finer things in life, but it seems that he is just like everyone else when it comes to having certain food preferences.
While King Charles is known to be particular about certain ingredients and where they come from, he enjoys simple and healthy dishes packed full of fruit and vegetables over heavy meals.
Despite avoiding some foods for sensible reasons when in public – such as garlic, seafood and tomato-based sauces – some of his more popular food aversions are because of centuries of royal superstitions that have passed down from generation to generation.
The most peculiar of these is down to the King and other members of his family being unable to eat food in a certain shape as it is linked to the idea that the person who serves the food is trying to cause damage to the monarchy.
In the documentary Secrets of the Royal Kitchen, former royal chef Graham Newbould revealed: "The royals never have square sandwiches because tradition has it that anyone presenting them with pointed-edged food is trying to overthrow the throne of England."
Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert, is also said to have subscribed to superstitious beliefs at meal times as he allegedly believed eating coffin-shaped food was unlucky.
Throughout his long tenure as the Prince of Wales, King Charles became well-known for speaking out about his passions for protecting the environment and the importance of organic farming – and he clearly practices what he preaches according to former members of royal staff.
Speaking before Queen Elizabeth II's death, royal chef Graham Newbould revealed: "Prince Charles has a healthier option. He'd have homemade bread, a bowl of fresh fruit, fresh fruit juices.
Wherever the Prince goes in the world, the breakfast box goes with him. He has six different types of honey, some special mueslis, his dried fruit and anything that's a bit special that he is a bit fussy about."
Another specific breakfast request was revealed by former royal chef Darren McGrady, who worked for the family for more than 15 years. He explained that King Charles likes to ensure the royal pantry is well stocked with "his own produce".
McGrady said: "The instruction was to put two plums and a little juice into the bowl and send it into him for breakfast. I'd send in two plums and he would take one so it would come back out after breakfast and I'd put the other plum back into the jar and save it.
"One morning I thought, 'ok, he only eats one for breakfast,' so I only put one plum into the bowl and sent it out into the dining room. The attending [waiter] came through and said, 'can His Royal Highness have two please?' So I had to keep sending two in every morning."
